2 things I always write off immediately:
- Food with the word ‘vegetarian’ in it
- Feminists. And that will never change.
(that said, if there was a prominent group of masculinists out there, I would probably write them off too…hmmm, spell check isn’t recognizing that word…)

to pole vault in college… or to not pole vault in college.. that is the question.
Oh dear God, please tell me you’re kidding. If you have the opportunity, please vault. Dedicate yourself to the sport, pursue excellence, and give it your all. You won’t regret it.
ACHILLES IN THE TRENCH Patrick Shaw-Stewart I saw a man this morning Who did not wish to die; I ask, and cannot answer, if otherwise wish I. Fair broke the day this morning Upon the Dardanelles: The breeze blew soft, the morn’s cheeks Were cold as cold sea-shells. But other shells are waitind Across the Aegean Sea; Shrapnel and high explosives, Shells and hells...
Bubka's Plant →
Dedicated followers, this is a quicktime video of Bubka, and it can be moved frame by frame. Start at the very first frame, and use your right keyboard arrow key to move 49 clicks into this video. Notice Bubka’s left arm! His elbow is bent at a 90 degree angle. This has allowed his Center of Mass to move into the pit. Bubka used the biggest and the longest pole. Why? Because he had an...
AHHH
AHHHH there is so much nonsense in the sport of pole vaulting it drives me crazy. Followers, hear me right now. 99.5% of vaulters and vaulting coaches have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the pole vault plant. When it comes to technique, there is one technique, and there is only one technique. It is the Bubka/Petrov model, and if a vaulter isn’t mimicking it EXACTLY,...
Stolen from Meghann.
Reflecting on 2011 - PS (Pre Script) My responses to these questions will not follow the questions exactly…
1. What was the single best thing that happened this past year? Well, I didn’t have any single moment of greatness, but probably the most exciting moment (MOMENT) was when my UVM coach finally told me I was definitely going to be put on both the indoor roster and the outdoor...

Vaulting.
The sport of vaulting really matches my personality. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I am a vaulter. I don’t posses the athleticism that many of my teammates and vaulting peers do, but I thoroughly understand the vault and the nuances of the Bubka/Petrov model. Vaulting takes an analytical mind. It takes a love of acrobatics and thrill seeking. It takes dedication to fight...
So, I immortalized myself on Sunday
Your first though may be, ‘Wow Sam! How did you do that?!’ Well here’s what’s happened. I hope your expectations are high for this story.
On Sunday morning, I went the the Edge in Williston to help officiate a VITA track meet which was being held there. I was also there to coach 10 South Burlington athletes, none of which had never touched a pole before.
Towards the end...
When I asked two of my friends how they would...

Professor Feldman, My name is Sam Chevalier, and today I attended the last lecture of your POLS41 class. As a person of faith, I found today’s lecture, especially the part concerning eugenics and its relation to the Holocaust, extremely intriguing. In addition, your message on euthanasia was thoroughly refreshing in a time when it is so blindly and idiotically supported by our (politically)...
Soda.
Let’s talk about soda.
It’s always too fizzy for me when it come straight out of the bottle, but I abhor flat soda. I like soda which has lost about 35% of it’s carbonation, but this is rarely the state of the soda which I consume. It is always either too flat of too fizzy.
Life stinks sometimes…
Ohhhh the power of perspective.

I fought hard.
And I’m officially on both the 36-man indoor roster and 48-man outdoor roster.
I'm not crazy, I'm really not
BUT my dorm building hums. It is kinda like a deep throat-ed rumble which it seems to make ONLY VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING WHEN I AM ALONE WALKING TO TRACK PRACTICE.
It makes this deep hum for bout three quarters of a second, then it is silent for about 2 and a half seconds. I am always gravely concerned when I hear it.
So, in response, every time I go downstairs and I hear it, I stop in my...

I ride switch on my longboard at night. For two reasons: to improve my switch riding capabilities. To balance out my leg muscles.
Why do I do this at night? Because I look like a retard when I ride switch, and I have muchhh less of and audience when it is dark out (and my face is obscured by the dark :)

Of the track, that is. Look at how straight his beautiful, long black legs are when they hit the track.
Go outside and sprint. Seriously, go try it. I know I’ve tumbled about the before, but very few people are natural sprinters. Low COM and hips. Incomplete leg cycles. Zero dorsiflexion. Bent knees when the foot touches the ground. Hunched over....

So I was in chem
And I was looking to see how tough the ENGR 2 quiz, so I turned to a girl next to me whom I thought was in my ENGR 2 class.
“Are you in Engineering?” I innocently asked.
“I’m a girl,” she snub-ly replied.
“OH RIGHT,” I thought. “YOU’RE NOT SMART ENOUGH.”
I just dropped like 100 friends.
More to come.
Attention All Christians.
Actually, this is more so directed at you Calvinists and Baptists…
Maybe, just maybe, there isn’t this amazing plan for your life which God is just waiting to reveal to you. Maybe, just maybe, God isn’t up there ‘pulling strings’ and ‘opening and closing doors’. I firmly believe he doesn’t make a habit of it. Anything can happen through prayer, but...
Attention college students.
If you’re not playing a varsity sport with thoroughly exhausting 2 hour+ practices everyday, please do not complain about having ‘no time’ and about ‘being tired all the time’. I DON’T CARE.
Precedent.
I mean, can I walk around shirtless in the halls of L&L? I do, but it always feels kinda weird (mostly because of the weird looks I get).
Sorry, everyone, sorry for trying to set a shirtless precedent. I refuse to relent.
