So, I immortalized myself on Sunday
Your first though may be, ‘Wow Sam! How did you do that?!’ Well here’s what’s happened. I hope your expectations are high for this story.
On Sunday morning, I went the the Edge in Williston to help officiate a VITA track meet which was being held there. I was also there to coach 10 South Burlington athletes, none of which had never touched a pole before.
Towards the end of the meet, there were 11 vaulters sitting on the turf, and I was about 25 feet in front of them. My back was to them, but I was slightly angeled so I could still see the runway. A kid named Oren decided it would be funny to throw a soccer ball at me. Looking straight ahead at the runway, I saw the ball come at me through the corner of my eye. Without turning my head, I kicked my heel up as the ball was about to hit me. I kicked the ball perfectly, and it went straight back into Oren’s hands. I didn’t so much as flinch when I did this, but it absolutely stunned the group of vaulter’s behind me. None of them could believe what they had just seen, and neither could I (especially since i could only just barely see what happened out of the corner of my eye). A no look perfectly aimed heel kick from 25 feet away is a rare occurrence, but I did it, and it can never be undone. Jealous? I’m not sure if I will ever be able to top this, so don’t worry about it.
